#15: Because we are one, there is never any separation between us

I have completely taken care of the sin issue at the cross. But by reflex you imagine that your sins change your relationship with me. Your sins separate you from me, you think. They take you out of fellowship with me. As long as you don’t confess them, you remain out of fellowship with me.

No. None of that is true. Those beliefs keep you in bondage. They keep you sin-conscious. I came to set you free from all that.

Here’s why these things are untrue. You and I are one. Permanently, eternally one. You have become one spirit with me. That’s as close as we can possibly get. In all the ages to come, you won’t be any closer than one spirit with me. You will experience more fully the reality of that closeness, but you won’t get any closer. There can never again be any separation between us. There can never again be any distance between us. Since you are in me, you are now and always will be as close to the Father as I am. That’s how close I have brought you.

Nothing you do can produce any separation between us. I will repeat that. Nothing you do can produce any separation between us. That includes taking you out of fellowship with me. Fellowship simply means to share, to participate in together. You share in my life. You are a partaker of my nature. Does committing a sin take my life away from you? Do I stop being in you if you sin? Do you stop being a partaker of my nature? No!

The truth is this: you committing a sin doesn’t move you one inch from me. It can’t. We are one spirit. That never changes. You share in my life. That never changes. You are not constantly hopping in and out of fellowship with me.

What your sin does is affect your enjoyment, your experience, of our oneness. But it doesn’t move you away from me. That’s a huge difference. Your fellowship, your sharing, your participation, is still with me, and with the Father, and with the Spirit. You can be at complete rest in your oneness with me. Nothing ever separates us. Nothing.

If sinning doesn’t take you out of fellowship with me, then confessing your sin cannot bring you back into fellowship with me. Nor does confessing your sin activate your forgiveness. Your forgiveness was already activated, and completed, once and for all time, at the cross. You don’t have to do anything to get forgiven. If you did, that would mean you needed to add to my work on the cross. But you don’t. You are already completely forgiven.

So should you agree with my Spirit if he points out that you have sinned? Absolutely. But it’s not to get forgiven, or to be restored to any lost fellowship. It’s simply so that you will be on the same page as me. It’s so you’re saying what I say about something you said or did, that it didn’t originate from me, and thanking me that you are already completely forgiven, and trusting once again in my sufficiency to live through you.

I have made you as close to myself as you can ever be. Nothing can change that. And nothing can change the fact that I am the life within you. Do you want to know the confession that really pleases me? Confess that you are the righteousness of God. Confess that I am the one living in you, and through you. That’s the consistent confession that will bear fruit in your life.

I’ve said all of this before:

The one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him. (1 Corinthians 6:17)

“In that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you.” (John 14:20)

For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38-39)

Our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ. (1 John 1:3)

I am writing to you, little children, because your sins have been forgiven you for His name’s sake. (1 John 2:12)

When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions. (Colossians 2:13)

He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. (2 Corinthians 5:21)
